Sound is the medicine of the future
- Edgar Cayce
During a three-month artist residency at the Spatial Sound Institute, Rona Geffen executed research into the alchemy of spatial geometry, frequencies and their effect on the listener. Her research is concerned with the connection between emotional and physical reception of sound in relation to shape, movement and intention, as well as the connection between sound, geometry and mathematics.
Her research culminated in the immersive audio-visual experience 'The Sound is the Scenery’. The basis of the work is Geffen’s spatial music composition based on structures known as Sacred Geometry and mathematical principles such as the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci sequence. As her sound sources she uses tuning forks and chimes that resonate on frequencies equal to the rotation of the planets in our solar system, as well using human voice and percussion. 'The Sound is the Scenery’ explores a new form of audiovisual experience, using new immersive technologies to create a meditative ritual, proposing new approaches to attain healing through sound and colour. that apply sound and colour.
The documentary shows Geffen and her crew at work, including mathematician Dr. Claire Glanois and visual artist Alessandra Leone, and introduces the leading themes in Geffen’s work. The documentary was filmed, directed and edited by Quiet City: Daniela Del Pomer & Paul Holdsworth.
